Sherrie Dawn Herlacher (nee DeSalvo), 55 of Avon Lake, formerly of Rantoul, Illinois, passed away Monday, October 24 at University Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sherrie was born June 9, 1956 in East Cleveland. She graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1974 and had lived in Raintoul for 15 year before settling in Avon Lake in 1994. Sherrie had continued her education at several colleges including Lorain County Community College.

Sherrie was an active member of her church and her community. A Born Again Christian, Sherrie was an integral part of her church community at Calvary Baptist Church, Avon Lake, belonging to the Women's Group, The Women of Worth Group and the Life Group. Sherrie could always be counted on to assist with special events and the general needs of the church. Sherrie was also a volunteer with Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services. For CRS she was a member of the Charity Ball Committee, worked in the food pantry, helped in the office, she especially enjoyed work that would help the children of Avon and Avon Lake, like creating small gift baskets for Halloween and Christmas. In addition to CRS Sherrie also gave of her time to the Avon Lake Band Aids, creating center pieces for their banquet and making sure the band member's uniforms where performance ready; she also worked in the snack bar. When Sherrie had free time she enjoyed as hobbies crafting and gardening. Sherrie put her talents to good use, creating "Memory Chairs" for the CRS Auction as well as making these special gifts for her great-nephews.

Sherrie's life was full, but there are two highlights worth mentioning, last year Sherrie was able to fulfill the life long dream of visiting Paris, France. Also, Sherrie was a huge Jim Thome fan and recently, during her illness she received a personal phone call from the Indians' Baseball Player, which truly lifted her spirits.

Sherrie is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Michael D. whom she married July 5, 1975, three loving children Michael J. of Avon Lake, Daniel R. of Cleveland Heights and Amanda J. of Avon Lake. Other survivors include her parents Joseph V. and Blanche A. (nee Carico) DeSalvo of North Olmsted, sister Gay Baumgartner (Richard) of Westlake and brothers Joseph (Roberta) of Willowick and Michael (Wendy) of Westlake. She was a caring aunt and great aunt to many.
