Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend

Obituary

Dr. William J. Rudge
Born: October 15, 1935
Died: December 30, 2020

Sadly, we have lost husband, father, grandfather and friend.

William "Bill" Rudge, DDS was born to Dr. Horace and Mrs. Betty Rudge and spent a good part of his life in Rocky River where he started kindergarten and graduated from Rocky River High School Class of '53. He attended Miami University of Ohio and Western Reserve Dental School and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau and Psi Omega fraternities.

In the interim, he met and married Barbara "Bobbe" Mueller a fellow RRHS classmate and happily shared the Mueller family's passion for boating, leaving immediately after his honeymoon to sail with his new in-laws in the Lightning World Championships on the East Coast.

Serving in the U.S Navy, he was attached to 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California. Following his service, he returned to Rocky River and practiced dentistry in Lakewood for the next 50 years retiring in 2011. He loved sailing, power boating, fishing and hunting. He sailed competitively both as skipper and crew. He traveled to remote areas to fish for trout and salmon and was a skilled fly fisherman and fly-tyer. He was a member and Past Commodore of Cleveland Yachting Club, Rockwell Springs Trout Club, Beaver Creek Hunt Club, Ducks Unlimited, Woods and Waters Club of Northern Ohio, Natural History Museum Trout Club, Lakewood-Rotary Club, and SAR.

Above all, his biggest interest was of family. He enjoyed every minute being with them. Every holiday was filled with fun, noise, food and beverage. His friends and neighbors were considered family. He will be sorely missed as he leaves behind his wife of 63 years Barbara "Bobbe" (nee Mueller); his children Scott Rudge (Antoinette), Stacia Skoog (David), and Carrie Cofer (Jim); grandchildren Sarah Skoog Brown (Andy), Katherine Skoog, William Rudge, Elisabeth Rudge, and Jamie Cofer; brother Richard B. Rudge (Nancie) and a cast of much-loved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
