Obituary for Victor Martinez

June 7, 1957 - April 17, 2018
Cleveland, Ohio | Age 60

Loving Husband, Father, Uncle

Victor Martinez, 60 of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born June 7, 1957 to parents Bienvenido and Maria (nee Carmona) Martinez in Lorain, OH.
Victor was a graduate of South Eastern Bible College and was a mentor to many. Victor was a family man. He married the love of his life, Margarita 37 years ago and together they raised son Jay and daughter Katherine in Cleveland. He came home every day at the same time and the kids would meet him in the driveway and try to convince him to play in their kiddie pool or attack him with snowballs. Victor enjoyed taking the family down to Public Square and showing them the trees he put lights or decorations on; but it was nothing compared to when he would take them to the lighting ceremony. Victor was the guy in the man hole with his finger on the switch ready to light the tree when the signal was given. Victor was a proud employee of the City of Cleveland because of what it provided, in so many respects, for his family. Victor received a Resolution of Congratulations from the City of Cleveland for his retirement along with a letter from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 38 and a Proclamation from Mayor Frank Jackson from the City of Cleveland for his many years of service.
In addition to working for the City, Victor was a Pastor at the International Christian Church in Cleveland. You could call this his second job, and it was an equally rewarding experience for him. As a fully bilingual (Spanish-English) church, they often found members who had no family, found themselves away from family or were looking for a place to go where they could feel cared for and cared about. Victor and his church became that place for them. You didn't often find him behind the pulpit. He left that to his (equally amazing) wife, Margarita. Victor would organize coat drives, food drives and would get groups together to feed the homeless. He loved the people of his church and they became his second family.
He is survived by his beloved wife Margarita of 37 years; loving children Jay J. Martinez and Katherine Martinez; dear brothers Eli (Rosemarie), Daniel (Rosa Maria), and Luis (Regalada); nieces and nephews Raymond and Elizabeth, Daniel and Caleb, Jennifer and Gabriel, Nicholas, Olivia, Bianca, Wynee, and Patricia.
Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 21 at 11:00am. Interment at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 21369 CENTER RIDGE RD, FAIRVIEW PARK on Friday April 20 from 6pm-9pm. (440) 333-9774
