Loving Sister and Aunt

Obituary

Vera H. Beard (nee Petroff), age 89, of Elyria, passed away peacefully at Ames Family Hospice House on Friday, November 17, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Vera was born in Lorain on December 24, 1927 and moved to Elyria in 1946, where she resided until 2017. Mrs. Beard was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Elyria. She was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 778, in Elyria. Vera was formerly employed as an Inspector at General Industries Corporation.

Vera enjoyed traveling the country with her husband of 47 years, Dick; her favorite destination being Hawaii. She was an avid card player, particularly enjoying her time spent hosting weekly card games. She also enjoyed making crafts, taking weekend casino trips, and spending time with her poodles, Pierre and Baby. Vera was known as the friendliest face in her neighborhood; if you saw her on a walk or bike ride, you could expect a friendly wave and a bag of treats. Having no children of her own, one of her greatest joys in life was spending time with all of her many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her brother, Steve Petroff, Jr. (Betty) of Pennsylvania, by her caregiver and niece, Debra A. Jeffreys (John) of Amherst and her nephew, Jeffrey W. Bobek (Kim Klein) of Mayfield Heights, by her great-nephew and great-niece, Ryan (Morgan) and Katlyn Jeffreys, and by many other beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Richard L. Beard in 1993, her sisters, Ethel B. Bobek in 2010 and Pauline "Sue" Dobrinski in 2014, and her parents, Steve and Alberta (nee Harcula) Petroff.

The family encourages memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church, 312 Third Street, Elyria, Ohio 44035, to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44110, or to the Lerner School for Autism, in care of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, P.O. Box 931517, Cleveland, Ohio 44193.
