Obituary

Ruby Sunshine (nee Hull) Decker was accepted into her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ's arms on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 on the 20th anniversary of her son's death. She was born on July 16, 1922 in Alva, Oklahoma to Walter Vernon and Myrtle (Blunk) Hull.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Charles W. Decker in 2004; her beloved son, Douglas W. Decker in 1997; her dear daughter-in-law, Janet M. (Kohl) Decker in 1999; her brother, Bill and sisters, Doris and Miriam; and niece, Cheryl.
Ruby retired from Vic Stewart Insurance after dedicated work as his secretary for over 20 years. She loved playing bridge and golfing, but her passion was baking pies and entertaining guests. She had the gift of hospitality making everyone feel welcome in her home. Mom was best known for her out-of-this-world delicious pies winning a blue ribbon for her fabulous Honey Crisp Apple pie at the 2008 Elyria Apple Festival. She was an active and founding member of the Community United Methodist Church and before her death was the oldest original member of that church still attending. Ruby belonged to the Elyria Twins Club in the 50s and was an active member of the Elyria Woman's Club for many years. In her later years after being a "football widow" for many years, she decided to learn about the game and became an avid fan watching her favorite team U. of M. even after Dad died.
She is survived by her daughter, Susanne Decker Werner (Michael) of Wilmington, NC, her son David C. Decker of Toledo, OH, and her daughter, MaryLou Doebele (Bill) of Elyria; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly missed by all who knew her including her dear friend Marie Fulthorpe.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community United Methodist Church.
Friends may call 6-8pm Wednesday, October 25 at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria and 10-11am Thursday, October 26 at the Community United Methodist Church, 680 North Abbe Road, Elyria.
