Obituary

Raymond A. Castelluccio (age 79), founder and owner of Area Temps, Inc. and several other successful Cleveland-area employment services, passed away on July 23, 2021, after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, sons Marc (Martha Saltis) and Kent (Jennifer), and seven grandchildren- Kaitlyn, Ryan, Brandon, Evan, Colin, Olivia, and Dominic.

Mr. Castelluccio's extensive career in the employment industry began when he was recruited by the Businessmen's Clearing House in Cincinnati, where he worked while pursuing his master's degree at Xavier University. He relocated to Pittsburgh after 3 years and joined the American Business Center. Two years later, knowing that his goal was to start his own business, he relocated to Cleveland in 1968 and opened Cleveland Business Consultants and Search Masters in 1973.

Over a 45-year career in permanent placement, and 30 years in temporary employment, Mr. Castelluccio always considered himself to be primarily a teacher. He embodied the Chinese proverb, "Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." Thousands of people with no sales experience have benefitted from his instruction and have developed successful careers in the employment industry as a result of his influence.
He was a true entrepreneur, leader and visionary to all that knew him.

After founding a group of 9 permanent job placement agencies, including Cleveland Business Consultants and Search Masters, Inc., Mr. Castelluccio opened Area Temps in 1987. His innovative ideas on customer service, applicant recruiting and retention, and his ability to attract and motivate talented salespeople lead to great success, and Area Temps soon grew to become one of this area's leading temporary employment services, with locations throughout Northeastern Ohio.

During his career, Mr. Castelluccio also served on the board of directors of the Better Business Bureau, and in recent years was active in the Business Advisors of Cleveland. He was a 1964 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, with a BBA in accounting, and received an MBA in finance and marketing from Xavier University in 1966.

In his personal life, Mr. Castelluccio was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and boater. He completed over 20+ remote fishing trips to the Canadian wilderness, and successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. He white water rafted on the Zambezi River in Africa and bungee jumped from the Victoria Falls Bridge. At the age of 70, he became the oldest stock car driver at the Lake County Speedway, winning many races. He had a passion for snow skiing, boating on Lake Erie and Florida, and was a member of the Cleveland Yachting Club and Westwood Country Club.

Mr. Castelluccio also loved to travel, and visited every continent except Antarctica with his wife, Carolyn. He also enjoyed many family vacations with his kids and grandkids, including Spring breaks at their Boca Grande condominium in Florida. He was an avid fan of all the Cleveland sports teams, and closely followed all his grandchildren's sports activities.
