Patricia Downey (nee Coyle) (1934-2018), passed away June 27, 2018 at age 84. Born in Lorain to William and Ellen (nee McAuley). She was preceded in death by her dear brothers William and Patrick, survived by Robert. Patricia (also known as Pat or Patsy) was the much beloved wife of the late William Downey; cherished mother of Kathleen Welsh (Daniel), Mary Maloney (Kevin), Brian Downey and William Downey. In addition to raising her four children, Pat worked on the night shift for many years at Ohio Bell (then AT&T) as a telephone operator and payroll clerk. She had many fun experiences with her co-workers who became life-long friends. However, Pat (or "G") was happiest when she was with her grandchildren: Megan, Bridget and Caitlin Welsh, Colin and Maggie Maloney, Katie, Bill and Jane Downey and Matthew Downey. When they were younger, she was the best babysitter (letting them get away with everything) and the best cook (her famous Sunday dinners and magic toast when they were sick). As the grandkids got older, she became their partner in crime, playing slots at the casino and beer pong at graduation parties! And we can't forget the many nieces and nephews (and great and great-great nieces and nephews) who have Aunt Pat to thank for making them a star during her infamous talent shows. Although she slowed down in recent years, Patricia led a wonderful life and she will be missed by all who knew her. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a place Patricia held dear to her heart: Holy Name High School, 6000 Queens Highway, Parma Hts., OH 44130. The family will receive friends on Monday July 2, 2018 from 4-8pm at BABITT-BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 9350 Ridge Rd., North Royalton, OH 44133. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Albert the Great, 6667 Wallings Rd., North Royalton at 10am on Tuesday July 3, 2018. Private inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
