Obituary

Mary Brunot Sandberg died March 6, 2021 at her home in Rocky River, Ohio. She was born October 6, 1931 in Pittsburgh, PA to John Breton Brunot, Jr. and Laura Louise (Canfield) Brunot. The family lived in Beaver, PA where she attended school and graduated from Beaver High School. She attended Allegheny College, was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and while there met her future husband, Victor E. Sandberg, class of 1952. They married after her graduation in 1953 and lived in Cleveland for two years until Victor was transferred to California for his job. His career later took them to Illinois and western NY, until they returned to Ohio where Vic retired. In addition to raising her sons and enjoying her grandchildren, Mary was active in many areas. She wrote articles for local newspapers in the various places they lived, wrote articles for medical journals for local physicians, and ran the family firm, the Brunot Company, a closely held energy company, for many years. She also did volunteer work in support of mental health, and was involved in antique groups, book groups, a college club for women, and was active in her church, St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lakewood, OH. She was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and taking art classes throughout her life.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, her stepmother, Anne Negley Brunot, and her husband. She is survived by her son Eric Breton Sandberg and wife, Christine, of Trenton and Islesford, Maine, son David Bruce Sandberg and wife, Ellen, of Rocky River; three grandchildren Laura Anne Merchant (Sean) of Southwest Harbor, ME, Susan Elizabeth Sandberg, and Eric David Sandberg (Rachel) of Rocky River, and great grandchildren, Matilda Bailey, Jasper Merchant, and Morgan Sandberg.

Interment will be at St. Clair Cemetery in Greensburg, PA at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
