Loving Husband, Father, Friend

Obituary

Mark James Spitzer passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2020 at the age of 69. Mark and his wife Diane (Conrad) have been longtime residents of Avon Lake. To know Mark was to appreciate what a kind hearted and truly exceptional father and friend he was.

Born in Grafton, along with his brother George, Mark was raised by Stewart Spitzer and heavily influenced by his aunt and uncle, Anne and Del Spitzer. Active in football and wrestling, he graduated from Midview High School in 1969. He attended Bowling Green where he became a "life loyal member" of the Sigma Chi fraternity, graduating in 1973.

From a young age, Mark grew up in the car industry. He knew every facet of the car business, but always made sure people came first. Mark attributed his work ethic and drive to Uncle Del, his lifelong mentor whom he loved working alongside.

A loyal and dedicated businessman, Mark decided to change careers in 1998, in order to devote more time and energy to his loving family and friends. He ventured into the wealth management industry, and excelled at making people happy; Mark always cherished the personal relationships that he was able to establish and maintain throughout his life.

Mark was happily married for 32 years to Diane. Their early years were spent devoted to their children and their activities. They enjoyed years of Cavs season tickets, culminating in the championship run of 2016. Mark and Diane also enjoyed biking, kayaking, and boating. They were fortunate enough to travel the world together and enjoyed annual vacations with close friends.

While Mark was proud of his professional accomplishments, he was most proud his four children, Holly, Rob (Deirdre), Ryan (Emily), and Brandon. Mark loved family vacations, especially at Ocean Reef Club, where he was able to spend time with his family and five grandchildren, Brayden, Mallory, Michael, Declan, and Cameron. He loved spoiling his grandchildren with ice cream, rides in his convertible, and two-dollar bills.

Mark loved golf, but golf did not always love him. Undeterred, you could frequently find him at the driving range, golfing with his sons, or on the course with his many friends. Mark truly loved the game and the friendships made because of it.

A role model, friend, and the truest example of what it means to love your family, Mark had a long-lasting impact on everyone he encountered. While his family is thankful for the time they were able to spend with him, words cannot describe how much he was loved and will be missed.

Mark thoroughly enjoyed interacting with family, friends, and clients; in lieu of a traditional ceremony, a Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the Legacy – Sweetbriar Pavilions, 750 Jaycox Rd, Avon Lake. Please dress casual and comfortable for the outdoor atmosphere.
