Obituary for Margaret "Peggy" O'Brien

October 3, 1946 - February 2, 2021
Avon Lake, Ohio | Age 74

Loving Daughter, Sister, Cat Lover

Margaret "Peggy" O'Brien, 74 of Avon Lake and a former resident of North Olmsted, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Main Street Care in Avon Lake. She was born October 3, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Peggy worked as a Medical Records Coder at St. John Medical Center, but her true passion was animals, especially cats. She volunteered with Love-A-Stray cat adoptions on the weekends and fostered kittens for the Westlake Animal Control. She was involved with trap/neuter/release in her area. The cats she was unable to place, remained in her loving care.
A kind soul, she volunteered as a greeter at Unity Spiritual Center and offered her services as a Reiki practitioner there on Monday evenings.
As a member of the Cleveland Zoo, she took her sister, Elizabeth, each Earth Day to participate in the release of lady bugs, a favorite activity. She would take her sister, Patti, a childlike soul, to Boo at the Zoo. Family was important to Peggy. She and her mother were very close and shared many adventures over the years.
She loved going to cat shows and craft shows where she would find little treasures for her sisters. She tended a small garden on her balcony. A talented artist, Peggy could often be seen at the zoo or at Huntington Beach with her large tablet set against her lap drawing for hours. She enjoyed photography, with nature and animals being her prime subjects.
Margaret is survived by her loving sister, Elizabeth O'Brien of Sheffield Lake.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret E. O'Brien in 2000, father, Donald J. O'Brien in 1987, and sister, Patricia O'Brien in 2017.
Memorial contributions can be forwarded to Love-A-Stray Cat Rescue, 39104 Detroit Road, Avon, Ohio 44011 or applied to Love-A-Stray Cat Rescue veterinary bills at Avon Lake Animal Clinic, 124 Miller Road, Avon Lake, Ohio 44012.

This is an excerpt from a poem Elizabeth wrote for Peggy on her 50th birthday:
"So many hours sharing
what only sisters can:
Love, tears, abandonment, hope
Rise up to fall down again.
Catching each other when
no other net could be found
My sister
My soul"
RIP Peggy. The Journey ends. The Journey begins.
