Lenore L. Marken (nee Leaders), 78 of Avon Lake, formerly of Vermont, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018. She was born November 21, 1939 to parents Walter and Leila (nee Bacon) Leaders in Wadena, Minnesota.
Lenore was a high school graduate of Wadena High School, class of 1956. She attended Bemidji State College earning her Bachelors in 1960. She majored in English. She later attended the University of Vermont, where she earned her Master's Degree and was presently working on her Doctorate. Lenore started her teaching career in the early 1960's teaching in Minnesota. From there she worked for the Franklin County School System in Vermont from 1974-1984. She retired from the Lorain City School system in 2000 after working as an English teacher at Admiral King High School with 15 years of service.
Lenore was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, an active choir member, a member of the ALUCC book club, a moderator of the church and past board member of the local church and Ohio Western Reserve Ward; she was a member of the Lorain County Board of Mental Health. Lenore loved classical music, the arts, playing bridge and attending concerts of Apollo's Fire.
Lenore is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Donald; sons Erik Marken of Elyria, OH and David (Karen) Marken of VA; granddaughters Kate and Kari and her brother Rodney leaders of FL.
She is preceded in death by a sister Margaret "Peg" Bugher and her parents Walter and Leila Leaders (nee Bacon).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be forwarded to the Avon Lake United Church of Christ Music Fund c/o the church 32801 Electric Blvd. Avon Lake, OH 44012. Friends may call on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 3pm-6pm at Avon Lake Church of Christ 32801 Electric Blvd. Avon Lake, OH 44012. Services will be held at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 10:30am. Burial will be Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, OH. 440-933-3202
