Loving Mother and Grandmother

Obituary

Lela L Luse, was born in Mariana, Arkansas on April 2, 1927, to Edward and Lucy Lott, the youngest of eight children. She lived and worked in Detroit, Michigan for most of her life. Lela and her first husband, Hector Phillips were very active in the Detroit Elks. She was a revered supervisor for the State of Michigan in the employment office for over 30 years. Lela and her second husband, George Luse, retired and moved to McKenzie, Alabama. Together, they purchased 130 acres which they named "Amaranth Village." This village comprised of several structures that included guest houses, an office, a recreation building and a number of gazebos. They even built a church on the property and often held Sunday services. Amaranth Village was designed to be a sanctuary for meditation, a spiritual retreat and a place to heal.

Some of Lela's other accomplishments were graduating from the Joseph Business School, in Forest Park, Illinois.

Lela also became a pastor after completing a theology program in Denver, Colorado. She often preached at local churches in Evergreen, Alabama.

Lela also went to school to become a certified florist – this explained her magic touch with the numerous beautiful plants and flowers that decorated her home and her gardens.

Lela left to cherish her memory, her son, Edmond Phillips (Florence), Stepsons, George Luse, Jr., Grover Luse and stepdaughter Ruby Luse. Her grandchildren: Treena Woods (Michael), Michael Phillips, Edmond Phillips, Jr., and Alesha Phillips and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers: JC Lott, Rueben Lott, Jack Lott, Edward Lott and her sisters: Alma Brown, Mae Mitchell, Corinne Powe, and her two children Van Phillips and Lynn (Tootie) Phillips.

Special thanks to Niece Cheryl Nnadi and Deidra Powe for their unwavering dedication to checking on Auntie Lela throughout her stay at the nursing home.

Thank you to the staff of O'Neill /Lakewood Skilled Nursing Home and the O'Neill Hospice nurses for their loving care of Lela.
