Obituary

Lawerance E. Forbes, 67, of Avon Lake, OH, passed away Thursday evening, August 13, 2020, surrounded by family after a nine month battle with cancer. Larry was born on March 1, 1953 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain, OH. He attended Lorain High and graduated from Admiral King High School in 1971. In high school, he was on the wrestling and football teams as well as achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

After high school, he attended LCCC where he received degrees in Business and Applied Science. He started his medical career at St. Joseph Hospital in the ICU and ER, then worked at Ford Motor Co, Lakewood Hospital in CCU, and the last 38 years at the Cleveland Clinic working in the cardiac surgery department as a RN/CNOR/Certified First Assist. During his time at the CCF, Larry was also the coordinator of the lung/heart transplant program. He holds a patent for the development of the "Forbes' Frogger," a device to assist in stripping veins during bypass surgery.

Retiring in the summer of 2019, Larry looked forward to his days spent with his family, time with friends on the golf course, and working in his yard.

Larry and his beloved wife, Claudia (nee Higgins) had a wonderful 43 years of marriage, sharing their successful careers in the medical field, love of travel and time spent with family and friends. Larry was an extremely devoted (and proud) father of three children, Jason (Myrna) of Kent, OH, Chad (Melissa) of Broomfield, CO, and Ashley (significant other, Owen), of Fairview Park, and two grandchildren, Jacob William and Annabelle Jane.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, David and Virginia (nee Weaver), and brother, Kenneth in 1989. In addition to his immediate family, Larry is survived by his sister, Claudia Csalos of Lorain and Peggy Schulz (David) of Batavia, mother and father-in-law Ruth and Bill Higgins, of Avon Lake, as well as many other loving relatives.

A socially-distanced outdoor memorial, officiated by The Rev. Kelly Brill, will be held to honor Larry at Valley of the Eagles Golf Course,1100 Gulf Rd, Elyria, OH 44035, at 11 a.m. on August 22, 2020. Golf attire is requested as Larry would have wanted it no other way. Masks required.
