Obituary

Karen Sue Hadick
May 30, 1937 – November 23, 2016

Karen Sue Hadick passed quietly into spirit late on the eve of Thanksgiving Day at Regency Hospital in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, with her husband and daughter at her bedside. Karen was the third daughter born to Lloyd James and Annie Coleman Appleby in Janesville, Wisconsin. She attended school in Memphis, Tennessee, Brooklyn, Ohio, and later in Milton, Wisconsin, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1955 from Milton High School. After a year of studies at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee campus, she moved to Parma, Ohio. Soon after, she reconnected with Dennis Hadick, whom she first met in 2nd grade in Brooklyn, Ohio. They were married on October 18, 1957. Dennis, a general contractor, and Karen had three daughters, Heather Irene in 1959, Krim Ann in 1962, and Sabrina Sonia in 1969. These three daughters were the inspiration for the name of the family construction business, Shamrock Development. After her youngest daughter was in school, Karen returned to her studies in the field of social work. In 1975, she began a career as a mental health counselor at Hawthornden State Hospital (now North Coast Behavioral Center) in Sagamore Hills, Ohio. After retirement, she was free to pursue her greatest passion, spending time with her husband and family, especially her eight grandchildren. Dennis and Karen were devoted parents and grandparents, and often included nieces, nephews and neighborhood children in outings and activities. She continued her lifelong habit of reading voraciously whether actual books, or on her well-used Kindle, or via her iMac. She also remained a competitor in any game she played – cards, Chinese checkers, Big Boggle, or Words with Friends. She is predeceased by her parents, her eldest sister, Betty Eschuk, and her brother, Lloyd James Appleby, Jr. She is survived by her husband and daughters, her sisters, Janet Lipke of Milton, Wisconsin, and Del Appleby of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and her grandchildren: Brett Dennis O'Connor of Cleveland, Ohio, Nolan Robert O'Connor of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Morgan Shea O'Connor of Strongsville, Ohio; Clay Andrew Nagy and Cecilia Marie Nagy of New Orleans, Louisiana; Chloe Nash McDanels (Adam) of Lakewood, Ohio, and Summer Ann Ventura and Kelly James Ventura of Medina, Ohio, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her deep wisdom, piercing intellect, and vibrant sense of humor. The funeral will be at Busch at 7501 Ridgewood Avenue in Parma, Ohio, and will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Family will receive those wishing to pay respects at 4:00pm with services to follow at 7:00pm. For more information contact Busch at 440-842-7800.
