Karen Elise Traxler (nee Carlson), passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Karen was born November 13, 1941 in Chicago, IL.
The family moved to Flossmoor, IL where she graduated from Bloom High School at the age of 16 in 1958. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio earning a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English Education. Karen met Jim Traxler at Ohio Wesleyan and they were married after graduation on August 25, 1962.
Karen had 3 careers; first and foremost, she was a full-time mother to Kristin, born 1966 and Eric, born 1969. With the children grown, she taught at Strongsville Center Junior High from 1983 to 1998, earning a Master of Arts in English Education from Baldwin Wallace University along the way. After retiring from teaching, she earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Pastoral Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary in 2002 and entered a counseling practice for several years.
During her lifetime, Karen was active in churches; served as an Elder at Bay Presbyterian Church, lead many study groups and women's associations while there. She also served as President of Glenview PTA in Bay Village. With husband, Jim, she sang in many church and community choirs.
Karen and Jim did extensive traveling, visiting 35 countries on 6 continents, including mission trips to Thailand, Russia, Hungary and Romania.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; children Kristin Traxler Peters (Brian) and Eric Traxler (Valerie); six grandchildren; and brother Kenneth Carlson.

Visitation will be at BUSCH FUNERAL HOME 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon on Friday, March 22nd from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Memorial Service will be held at John Knox Presbyterian Church 25200 Lorain Rd., North Olmsted on Saturday March 23rd at 5:00 pm, with reception to follow.
