Obituary

John C. Filigenzi, age 73, of Westlake, Ohio passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 after a valiant fight with Covid-19. He was born July 27, 1947 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to the late Guerino and Anna (nee Donofrio) Filigenzi.

John was raised in New Castle until the age of nine when the family moved to Parma, Ohio. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving as a Sentry Dog Handler during Vietnam. Following his dedicated service, John started his life with Marilyn and raising their three daughters, while beginning his career in sales in the plastic industry. His hard work and dedication earned him promotions as Sales Manager for several different Midwest branches of Cadillac Plastics. Desiring to settle and be near family, John joined HP Manufacturing in Cleveland, where he worked for 15 years, ultimately becoming Vice President of Sales. In 1993, he took a leap of faith and bought his own company, CSP Graphics. He loved being a small business owner. The relationship building of his work family and clients, the out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving, the ability to offer customized solutions, were all values in which he took great pride. After 25 years, he sold the company and embraced retirement in 2018.

John loved life. He was a happy and social man whose favorite pastime was being around friends and family, near or far, enjoying good food and conversation. Christmas was his favorite holiday and he delighted in having the house fully decorated with trees and Santa Claus'. He was also an avid golfer, bonding over its highs and lows with friends. Above everything he cherished his family, taking pride in raising three daughters and welcoming one granddaughter and five grandsons over the years. Family dinners, vacations to Hilton Head, trips to New Castle for Coney Island chili dogs, ice cream, and outlet mall shopping, and attending his grandkids school and sporting events were among his greatest joys.

John was the loving husband of Marilyn (nee Boczek); devoted father of Kristi (Craig) Latham, Lisa (Matt) Goodwin and Katie (Garrett) Sturgill; beloved Pop of Jack and Will, Sydney and Dylan, and Gabe and Elliot; cherished brother of Aggie (the late Fred) Day, Shirley (George) Barber and Rita (Ed) Crawford; dearest brother-in-law of Larry Boczek, Jim (Barb) Boczek and Michelle Boczek; uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
