Obituary

John Edward Lucas, Sr., age 101, of Garfield Heights, Ohio, peacefully and suddenly passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at O'Neill Healthcare in North Olmsted, Ohio. John was born on January 20, 1920 in Madera, Pennsylvania. He was one of the older of eleven children of Anna Lucas (nee Niznik) and Michael Lucas. John served in the U.S. Army from January 1943 to January 1946 and participated in combat in the Rhineland and Central Europe. For many years, John worked as a Metallurgist at the American Steel and Wire Corp., and at the U.S. Steel Corp., and he enjoyed bowling, gardening, playing horseshoes, and spending time with his family. John is survived by his loving children John E. Lucas, Jr. (Tina) of Warren, Pennsylvania, James W. Lucas (Joanne) of Strongsville, Ohio, and Kathryn A. White (James) of The Villages, Florida; his cherished grandchildren Michelle Lucas, John E. Lucas, III (Laurel), Lauren Hudson (Sean), and Ryan White (Jackie), and great-grandchildren Bennett Hudson, Isla Hudson, and Jude Lucas; his cherished younger sister Margaret "Peg" Lavosky; and many nieces and nephews and friends. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years Helen K. Lucas (nee Wranich) in August 2015; his parents Anna and Michael; and siblings Anna Radomsky, Joseph Lucas, Steve Lucas, George Lucas, Michael Lucas, Genevieve Lucas, Elizabeth Haky, Andrew Lucas, and Mary Hudic. John's family will receive friends at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 7501 Ridge Road, Parma, Ohio, from 9:00am to 10:00am on Saturday, April 10, 2021. A graveside service with U.S. Army honors and interment will follow at 11:00am on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield, Ohio.
