Obituary

Joanne Marie Eschke
Joanne died Thursday, July 23, 2020 at New Life Hospice in Lorain. She was born July 5, 1946 to Andrew and Irma Cebula Eschke. She was born with Cerebral Palsy but that did not hinder her beautiful spirit and smile.
She graduated from Elyria High School with the Special Education class. Reading, writing, and typing were great achievements for her. She attended the Murray Ridge workshop for many years and was placed on occasion with local firms. She especially loved working at the May Company shredding credit cards and documents for them. This job allowed her to "dress up", complete with panty hose and dress shoes, and socialize with people outside of the group home. Having been in a group home for 30 years, she met so many people. Prior to the Covid-19 stay at home order, she spent her days at the Learning Farm. She loved being around the animals. She was the social butterfly and was happiest among people.
Raised in St. John Lutheran Church in Elyria, she was comfortable singing and participating in church services. She was with the "Choraleers" for many years, singing for senior groups and in different venues. She enjoyed all kinds of music and knew the words to Hymns, Country, Rock 'n Roll, and Christmas songs.
Joanne loved being out and about, shopping, eating out, or just walking in the Rose Gardens at Lakeview Park. She loved traveling to various places. She had fond memories of Disney World, Graceland, Branson, MO and yes, even Casinos! Many trips were to Texas, West Virginia, Florida, and Georgia with her cousin, Ann, visiting family and friends. She was an excellent traveling companion, never complaining, always happy.
Joanne's cousins, Ann, Alyce, Jan, Jim, Alan, all thank the Group Home staff for all the love, care, and support they gave her for the past 30 years.
Survivors include nieces, Trudi (Richard) Jennings, Carol (Ed) Vojtek, Sandy (Randy) Lottman, and nephew Thomas (Gina) Eschke; aunt Margaret Eschke McLaughlin, many cousins, friends, and her special friend and dance partner, Mike Vitai.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1987, her father in 1990, and her brother, Howard, in 1994.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 1140 West River Road, Elyria, OH 44035 or the Elyria Public Library, 1194 West River Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
Friends may call 9-11am Tuesday, July 28 at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Graveside service will follow at 11:30am at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Pastor Bill Mugnolo of St. John Lutheran Church will officiate.
