Jeryl Rae Denton (nee Chipman), 89, of Avon Lake for 61 years, formerly of Parma, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from a sudden illness.
Jeryl was born on October 26, 1927 in Parma and was a 1945 graduate of Parma High School. She started out working as a Bookkeeper at Peck Engraving in Cleveland, moved onto bookkeeping at various accounting firms, and then served as the Deputy Clerk of Courts for the Avon Lake Municipal Courts for over 10 years before she retired. Jeryl and her husband, James were charter members of Lakeshore United Methodist Church and active volunteers, and she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Day Chapter 479. Jeryl enjoyed sewing, needle point, crossword puzzles, and she was a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians.
Jeryl is survived by her children, Sandra Stuart (Thomas) of North Ridgeville and Candyce Denton of Avon Lake; grandchildren Rachel Jones (Miles Ferraro) and Michael Jones; great-grandchildren Mia and Gianna; brother Richard Chipman (Beverly) of Dayton; nieces Deborah Zeller (Randy) and Valerie Fortney; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James W., and her parents, Marvin and Mabel (nee Shelton).

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Rd., Avon Lake on Sunday, February 19 from 3-6pm with Order of Eastern Star service at 6pm. Funeral service will be held at Lakeshore United Methodist Church, 33119 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake on Monday, February 20 at 11am with Rev. Paige Boyer officiating.
