Obituary for Jason R. Gibson

March 29, 1979 - January 29, 2021
North Ridgeville, Ohio | Age 41

Loving Fiance, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend

Jason R. Gibson (Chico), a true momma's boy, of North Ridgeville, Ohio passed unexpectedly into the arms of Jesus on Friday, January 29th at the age of 41.

For starters, Jason always said he deserved the most "phenomenal obituary"—nothing sorrowful, long-winded, or boring. So here it goes:

When the world remembers Jason Gibson, it will be for his unflinching resiliency, unending empathy, and unnatural obsession with Moe's Southwest Grill. He had a knack for discovery where the Reese's peanut butter cups were hidden and the location of the vending machine on campus with last bottle of Pepsi.

Born in Lorain, Jason earned an Associate of Arts from Lorain County Community College in 2009, a Bachelor of Social Work from Youngstown State University in 2010, and a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green University 2012.

Jason was a part of the Lorain County Community College family for over 13 years, starting his career with us as a student worker in Women's Link. His incredible work ethic forged his career progression, always with a focus and commitment to student success. He served as an advisor, a student success coach, an adjunct instructor, and most recently as the Manager for Enrollment and Advising Services.

Mom -There's often reasons why some children are born last in the birth order. Chico's thrill for adventure from toddler thru teens left moments of me wondering if I brought the right child home from the hospital. His humor kept many smiles on everyone who knew him. As his mom, I could go into Moe's in Avon, show his picture and they would know his typical order. Whatever he was passionate about he did a thousand percent. As my son – there are no words; as a dad – phenomenal; as a fiancée- caring with every detail; as a brother – shared humor only brothers understand; as an uncle – shared his knowledge of education intermingled with his life experiences as a leader and manager of his career at LCCC – he strived to make sure every student's experience was left with no questions unanswered. Jason, AKA Chico, is irreplaceable. Some day we will walk the streets of gold together.

Gaby – My Dad was my best friend. He was the most hardworking, kindest, and thoughtful person I've ever known. He's my rock that always kept me happy and my hero who was always there for me when I needed him. He's what I want to be like when I get older. I enjoyed going on shopping trips and going out to eat at different places with him. He was the best person I have ever known, and he will always be in my heart. I love you Dad.

Jodi –
We fit together in ways others could not see.
Our hearts united in perfect symmetry.
I don't understand it-this perfect mystery.
But I'll never take for granted your gift you gave to me.
Thank you, Jason Robert Gibson for your endless love.
May your soul Rest in Peace.

Jason is survived by his fiancé and "snapper" sharer, Jodi Cowfer, children, Jason (wife, Mattie), Dominic, Gaby (Gabrielle), Christian, Jackson, and Jameson.
Grandchildren- Jassy and Mason
Parents- Leslie and Al Speigle, Charlie and Betty Gibson

Amazing best friend and rescuer of Jason's home "repairs" – Darick Henry ("got 'em").
