James R. Sledz, age 75, of Parma Heights, Ohio; beloved husband of Judy (nee Liptak) Sledz for 50 years; loving father of Bryan J. Sledz (Mary) of Painesville Township, Ohio, and Ann Marie Penkal (Karl) of Parma, Ohio; dear grandfather of Joshua Sledz, Tanya Horabik, Amanda Ploskonka (Nate), Jacob Sledz, Felicia Crane (Aymen Mustafa), Abbey Sledz, Joey Sledz, Lauren Penkal (Ben Miles), and Tristan Penkal, and great-grandfather of Izabella Sledz, Zeke Penkal, and Ezra Horabik; brother of Mary Lewis (Norman, deceased), Theodore Sledz (Marylou, deceased), the late Billie Leska (Walter), and the late Betty Simpson (Ralph, deceased), and brother-in-law of Andrew Liptak (Kathy), Paul Liptak (Elfriede, deceased), Helen Suckow (Charles, deceased), Tom Liptak (Jackie), Martin Liptak, George Liptak (Michelle), Mildred Delphia (Al), Marge Quella (Steve), Stephen Liptak (Charlotte), and the late Michael Liptak (Sue); uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was a United States Navy veteran of Vietnam and a Tin Can Sailor. He was a retired Plant Operator from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD). He was very active with volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America and the Wood Badgers for more than 25 years. Jim was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.), the V.F.W. Berea Post 6676, and the American Legion Parma Jacubic Post 572. He passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 25, 2017. The family suggests memorial contributions be forwarded to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675 (, or to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 7501 Ridge Road, Parma, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Funeral service to be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. James Lutheran Church, 4771 Broadview Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44109 (Please Meet At Church). Cremation by Busch Crematory. Private interment with United States Navy honors will be held at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.
