James W. Blue of Avon, OH, formerly Bay Village, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 24th, 2019. He was born August 18th, 1923 in Muskegon, Michigan to Lebert and Rose (nee McElwain) Blue.

James was a veteran of WWII and served in the US Army. While attending Union College, James met Betty (nee Kuhlman) Blue at a freshman dance. In 1946 he married her in New York City. He received his Ph.D from Purdue University. A nuclear physicist for NASA, near his retirement James conducted research for the Cleveland Clinic on Fast Neutron Therapy for cancer patients which helped treat over 4,000 patients at the NASA Lewis Research Facility.

James was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He enjoyed fishing, vacationing in Disney World and spending time at the family cottage on Manitoulin Island. James is survived by his beloved wife Betty; loving children Thomas (Diana), Barbara Blue (Spiro Glaros) and Donald Blue; dear grandchildren Laura (Don Stanko) Blue, Elizabeth (Andrew Mercer) Blue, Leslie (Adam) Strader, David Glaros and Lauren Blue; great-grandchildren Madison, Harrison and Rosalie; and brother Robert Blue.

James is preceded in death by his parents Lebert and Rose, Donald's wife Janice (nee Williams) Blue and sister-in-law Dorothy Jean Blue.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary of the Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Hospice of the Western Reserve.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 13, at West Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, 20401 Hilliard Blvd, Rocky River, OH. 44116.
