July 3, 1921 - September 3, 2019

SCHMID, HELEN ROBERTA (nee Burrows) age 98, of Bay Village, OH, was born on July 3, 1921, to Chase and Blanche Burrows of Adams, Nebraska. "Bobbie" died peacefully in her sleep and was welcomed into heaven on September 3, 2019. Bobbie was the best friend and cherished wife of the late Dr. Norman E. Schmid, Sr.,O.D. for 58 years.

Incomparable and cherished mother to Norman E. Schmid, Jr., Marcia (Schmid) Bobal (Michael), Richard W. Schmid, Thomas G. Schmid (Kelly), and John S. Schmid. Preceded in death by her husband and children, Marcia and John. Dearest grandmother of Ryan Schmid, Anna Schmid, Marie Schmid, Andrew Schmid, Christine Bobal, Michael Bobal, Danielle (Schmid) Cuilli, Ashley Schmid and Eric Schmid; dearest great grandmother of Madeline Schmid, McKay Gandy Schmid, Damian Schmid, Samuel Cuilli, Natalie Cuilli and Bryce Penney. Loving sister to Bill Burrows and Dorothy (Burrows) Young; and dear aunt and great aunt to many.

Bobbie was an inspiration to many. Her infectious zeal for life was admired by all. She touched the lives of many through her sincerity, thoughtfulness, kindness, understanding, compassion and love. Family and friends were paramount in her life. Her generosity and support of those in need was never-ending. Her unwavering loving faith in God and acceptance of Jesus Christ as her personal savior was the foundation of her beautiful and meaningful life. Her genuineness touched the hearts and souls of many. She was an active member of Westshore Christ Church of Avon Lake, Ohio

Bobbie graduated from the University of Nebraska, and later earned her teaching certificate from Peru State Teachers College. She was an elementary school teacher, then stay-at-home mother, then returned to teaching again, reflecting her desire to actively contribute to society. A 57 year resident of Bay Village, she was well known for her generosity and her fondness for the game of bridge, belonging to numerous bridge clubs. For decades she could be seen enjoying her daily mile-long walks. Bobbie was a lifelong active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and past Regent of Martha Devotion Huntington Chapter, Bay Village, Ohio. She was passionate about community service, preserving history, educating children, as well as honoring and supporting those who serve our nation. Bobbie was an ardent supporter of non profit mental health agencies and organizations that focus on assisting and helping people who are unable to care for themselves.

As our mother, Bobbie was always loving, humble, and kind, yet, would provide us direction as needed. Lovingly, she even had the wisdom to know that sometimes that meant we had to learn on our own, the hard way. We were taught that everyone's role in life is important and to be respected. Never pretentious, she taught us thought provoking subtleties like "you raise cattle, but you REAR children". She will be missed.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service for Helen Roberta Schmid will be officiated by the Reverend Gene Sherman on Thursday, September 19th at 11:00 am at Anchor Church 32607 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, Ohio 44012, followed by a luncheon at 12:30 pm at the Legacy Restaurant, 750 Jaycox Road, Avon Lake, Ohio 44012.

During her final weeks here on earth, Roberta was loved and surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and friends, while cared for by the kind, compassionate staff at the Ames Family Hospice House. Roberta's family is forever grateful to this outstanding organization and requests that tribute donations be made in her honor to Hospice of the Western Reserve, PO box 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192 or online at
