Obituary

Gloria Jean Berry (nee McMann) 78 of Sheffield Lake passed away, Saturday, March 24 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Avon. Gloria was born March 13, 1940 in Delray, MI and had lived in Sheffield Lake the past 19 years.

Gloria was a graduate of Allen Park, MI High School. She was a military wife, at the young age of 19 began her family in Germany where her husband was stationed. She would return to the states, settling in Kansas and have two more children, before returning for one more stay in Germany and then back to Michigan where she she had her two youngest children and settled in to raise her family. Gloria was described as brave and strong, but because she was quiet her strength was often overlooked by friends and family. As a single mom, Gloria provided for her five children working as clerk and bookkeeper for over 30 years at the Allen Park Motor Lodge and The Royal Ascot Inn, which would become the Red Carpet Inn. She also worked in ticket sales for the Detroit Tigers organization. Later she ran a profitable E-Bay business from her home.

Gloria loved both reading and writing poetry and was quite good. Besides poetry, she enjoyed reading just about anything and when she could no longer read, she passed the time by listening to books on tape. She was a wiz at answering nearly every Jeopardy question correctly and baked legendary Christmas Cookies, a custom that has been passed down through the generations.

Gloria known to many as Go-Go, is survived by children Sherry Edmunds (Lawrence) of Southgate, MI, Gene Berry of Lincoln Park, MI, Toni Mosa (Bob) of Sheffield Lake, Wendy Bencik (Christopher) of Allen Park, MI and Jennifer Baisden of Sheffield Lake. Other survivors include grandchildren Lawrence Barber (Emily), Sarah Edmunds, Emily Edmunds, Tabatha Kender (David) Kirk Wangbickler, Branden Bencik, Kaylie Werner (Michael) and Mason Baisden and great grandchildren Gabriel Brown, Elijah Kender, Quinten Kender, Amaya Kender and Lucas Wangbickler. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Stachewicz, a niece Margaret Stachewicz, great niece Amanda Rosado (Jaime) and great-great nephew Gavin Rosado. She is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Marjorie (nee Franklin) McMann.
