Loving Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend to Many

Obituary

Glenn William McArdle was born on March 1, 1959 and passed away on April 28, 2020 at the age of 61. Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.

Glenn was born in Lakewood, Ohio to Jack McArdle and Elinor McNiece McArdle. He graduated from North Olmsted High School, where he was a drummer in the school band and an Eagle Scout. Glenn attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. At Purdue, Glenn met his future wife, Cindy Culross, and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, Beta Zeta chapter. Glenn and Cindy were married on May 17, 1986 in Lakewood, Ohio. Glenn went on to work in Northeast Ohio for Standard Oil (later BP) and TravelCenters of America for many years.

Glenn loved softball, and played in adult slow pitch leagues as well as coached youth teams where his daughters, Kelsey and Kati, played every year from a young age. He was an active volunteer in the Westlake Girls Softball Association, serving as president of the organization at one time. He was very involved with his daughters while they were growing up, and in addition to softball, was part of their activities through Indian Princesses, Girl Scouts, school, sports, volunteering, and music. On the weekend, when not playing, watching, or coaching softball, Glenn could often be found working in the yard at his home, mowing the lawn, landscaping, or cultivating a backyard vegetable garden. Glenn always seemed to be in the right place at the right time as far as animals were concerned, and helped adopt or rescue many beloved household pets over the years, including several abandoned cats (Rosie, Sunny, and Bea) who were found during his various work and travels, and who would soon be adopted into the family. He enjoyed reading and learning about history and visiting historic places, and was especially interested in aircraft, the annual Cleveland National Air Show being one of his favorite events. His father, Jack, served in the Navy and worked for NASA in Cleveland for many years, developing that interest. Glenn was a skilled carpenter who constructed many household projects, including Pinewood Derby cars and a backyard treehouse.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Cindy, daughters, Kati and Kelsey, sister, Judy Hessling, and other family members, including nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial contributions may be made online or by mail to the Ed Keating Center, PO Box 770108, Lakewood, OH 44107. A private family ceremony was held on Sunday, May 3, 2020. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon, OH later this year, and is currently planned for Sunday, September 6, 2020, as conditions allow.
