Obituary for Gilda Kaplan

March 31, 1925 - November 16, 2018
Elyria, Ohio | Age 93

Gilda (Madorsky) Kaplan died Friday, November 16 at her home in Elyria, OH. She was born March 31, 1925, in Akron, OH and a graduate of Cleveland Glenville High School. Gilda was a beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother who was absolutely adored by her family and friends. Gilda married Lou L. Kaplan and enjoyed over 50 incredible years together. They owned Kaplan's Furniture and spent much of their time volunteering in the community. They were also members of the Jewish War Veterans in volunteering. Gilda was especially proud of her work as an auxillary hospital volunteer at EMH. She was the oldest volunteer on record. She spent her later years fundraising and supporting the Alzheimer's Association.

Gilda's hobbies included skiing, boating, traveling the world, dancing, cooking, playing Rummikub, collecting stamps, gardening, watching sports (espcially her grandkids and kids play), and planting beautiful flowers at her home. Many close to her called her Mary Golden for her love of marigolds, which she seeded and then spread out all over the world through her loved ones as they traveled over the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Julius and Regina (Dunn) Madorsky, husband Lou L. Kaplan, sisters Cecilia, Miriam, Delores, and son Richard. She is survived by her children Jeff (Angel), Steve (Kathy), Sharon, grandchildren Andria (Ilya), Ryan, Jennifer, Jared and Drew, beloved grand dogs Valentino and Vanessa, as well as her sister Dylene. Gilda was a light in everyones life and will be dearly missed by all, especially her family and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 18 at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second St. in Elyria at 1:00 pm. Rabbi Lauren Werber will officiate. Burial will follow at Agudath Achim Cemetery in Elyria.
