George Rockas, 90, a lifelong resident of Avon Lake, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 10, 2016.
George was born on October 22, 1925 in Royal Oak, Michigan, and was a 1943 graduate of Avon Lake High School. He was a Purple Heart Veteran, having served in the Marines in World War II in Okinawa.
George was a plasterer in the construction trade for various companies before working in maintenance at Avon Lake High School in the 1960's. He retired in the 80's after working at Avon Lake High School for over twenty years. George was a member of the Avon Lake Boat Club, and he loved hunting and fishing. He was a sports enthusiast, and he especially loved Avon Lake High School sports.
George is survived by his daughter, Pamela J. Ford (Paul G.) of Enon; sisters Ann Holomuzki of Avon Lake, and Mary Able of Avon Lake; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores D. (nee Yohn); his parents Daniel and Mary; and siblings John, Michael, Daniel, Steve, Nicholas, Peter, Sylvia Pace, and Mildred Wait.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
