George A. Conn, 80, of Avon Lake, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021. He was born October 23, 1940 in Lorain to the late Lewis Wayne and Esther (nee Mullen) Conn.

George was raised in Lorain and was a graduate of Lorain High School. He joined the US Navy following graduation and proudly served aboard a submarine tender. After serving in the Navy, George attending Ohio Wesleyan University where he earned a bachelor's degree. While there he was captain of the sailing team. He also met and married Marian Wheeler, and they welcomed two children, Christopher and Caroline.

George was raised in the family business, Lorain Auto Parts, which had its roots as his grandfather's tack and harness shop. The store eventually became part of the NAPA Auto Parts franchise and George owned and operated stores in Lorain, Vermillion, Amherst, and Avon Lake for more than 30 years. Upon his retirement George stayed active by driving a bus for Bay Village Schools. It was here that he met and married Francine Heim, with whom he has shared the last 15 years.

George was a man of many passions throughout his life, including stamp collecting, woodworking, gardening, cross country skiing, and working as stage crew for Mighty Goliath Productions. But his most loved passion was boating. He was a past member of the Westlake Yacht Club and the Lorain Yacht Club. He taught Power Squadron classes at the Lorain Yacht club, and he enjoyed sailing, both for leisure and competition. George also enjoyed spending time at the family fish camp in Kipawa, Quebec.

Left to cherish George's memory are his beloved wife Francine Conn; loving children Christopher Conn (Saltanat Baetova) and Caroline Zakrzewski (Tony); cherished grandchildren Everett, Owen and Liliana Conn, and Cameron and Hannah Zakrzewski; sisters Nancy Terjesen (Barry) and Mary Buchanan (Troy Maynor); and Francine's loving children Stephen Heim and Lauren Clayman (Brian) and grandchildren Coen and Hayden.
