Floyd Larkins, 81, of Elyria, OH; beloved father, companion, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away on May 24, 2017.
His remarkable life included military service in both the Navy and the Army, Union Representative, and community activist and organizer.
Floyd graduated from Elyria High School, Class of 1953. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted into the Naval Reserve then transferred to the active Army. He served our country, around the world, as a combat engineer. He returned to Elyria after his service, where he was employed at the Ford Motor Company in Lorain as a Bargaining Committeeman for the UAW. He retired after 38 years of service. As a community activist and organizer, he was instrumental in bringing Urban Renewal to the South Side of Elyria, bringing new housing development and the pavement of streets.
Mr. Larkins is survived by his children Patricia Larkins of Columbus, Dean Larkins of Ashburn, VA., and Gary Larkins of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; siblings Carl Larkins, Christine Holmes, Steven Larkins, Vantoria Bolton, and Phillip Larkins; and companion of many years, Cecilia Jones.
He was preceded in death by his son Stanley F. Larkins; brother Herman M. Larkins; parents Herman and Lucy Larkins.
Family and friends may call 6-8pm Friday, June 9 at The Original Church of God, 512 Edwards Avenue, Elyria. Funeral service will be 11am Saturday also at The Original Church of God. Elder Orlando Algood will officiate. Burial in Brookdale Cemetery.
