EUGENE "GENE" B. FILIPOW, age 81 of North Royalton. Beloved husband of Barbara J. Fillipow (nee Tomc). Devoted father of Lesley Smith (Stephen); loving papa of Evan Benjamin Smith and Adam James Smith; cherished son of the late Gabriel and Mary Filipow (nee Yurentis); dear brother of Olga Filipow (deceased), Walter J. Filipow (deceased), Mary Ann, Alice M. Brown (Gene) and Debra Filipow (deceased); brother-in-law of Tim Tomc; uncle of Susan Brunecz (John), Mark Filipow, David Brown (Suzie), Michael Brown, Katie Brown (Sarah Hastings) and Rachel Tomc; great-uncle of Mackenzie and Mason Bruencz, Sophia Brown and Matty Tomc; Godfather of David Brown(Suzie) and Jessica Tomc (Michael Fracassi).

Gene was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 1, 1938. He was a 1957 graduate of Parma Senior High School. He studied at Bowling Green State University where he received a BS in Geology in 1961 and also attended Cleveland State University where he studied accounting and business. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army upon graduation from Bowling Green where he was then stationed into Stuttgart, Germany for 3 years as a Cartographer to the Commanding Officer. He had a passion about giving back to his country; To uphold our freedoms.

He was employed by Euclid Inc., VME America, Euclid Hitachi for over 30 years as an Accountant. In the 30 years at Euclid, he had also served as the Social Chair person for the Company. In addition to Accounting, he had worked for H & R Block as a Tax Consultant, as well as countless times of volunteer work. His volunteer activities varied from cooking dinners at church to fundraising events, parking cars, managing the garden at PSH, selling raffle tickets, washing dishes, ect. In specifically, even more admirable volunteer services he provided:

• Treasurer of Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church for over 35 years
• Treasurer of North Royalton Band Boosters
• Member of the North Royalton Facilities Committee for the Middle School Recommendation
• Member of Ashland University Parent Advisory Organization
• Treasurer of Partners in Education (Parma Schools Political Action Group)
• Parma Senior High Alumni Association
• Treasurer of Parma City Schools Foundation Inc.

No task was too big or too small. All of his volunteer work was recognized at the his induction into the Parma City School District Distinguished Hall of Fame in 2015 as well as Bailey Bells for all of his efforts. He was greatful for the educational opportunities that were provided to him by Parma High and wanted to give back to the students of today.

Gene had a great sense of humor. He was a man of deep faith in God and lived spiritually, daily. He was a wonderful family man and anyone that knew him became a fan as well. He had mastered compromising and caring. At times, he spoke with a stern voice but his heart was always warm and loving. He was a great master to his cats; Cooper and Charlie. He loved to play golf, collect/sample wines, and looked forward to vacationing at the lake in Port Clinton as well as Lake Lure in North Carolina for the last 35 years.

Gene peacefully passed surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 6, 2019. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Parma City School District Foundation Inc., 5311 Longwood Avenue, Parma, Ohio 44134. Funeral service at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 6822 Broadview Road, Parma Ohio 44134 on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Please gather directly at church. Private family interment with Military Honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, Ohio. Friends may call at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 7501 RIDGE ROAD, PARMA FROM 2:00 PM-7:00 PM, MONDAY JUNE 10. PARASTAS SERVICE AT 6:00 PM. Memory Eternal.
