Westlake, Ohio - Eileen Richey McAfee Schnebelen, 92, died Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Belvedere in Westlake, assisted in her final days by her loving family, the devoted staff at the Belvedere and Crossroads Hospice.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Mary and Bruce Asmus, Pat McAfee, Syndie and Jim Eardly, Terri and Tom Vicarel; her step-children and their spouses Dave and Cheryl, Linda and Richard, Rick, and Gary and Cindy; her grandchildren and their spouses Katie and Brandon, Suzi and Scott, Christy and Thomas, James and Mara, Hannah, Danny and Asami, Jay and Kate, Matthew and Ashley, Adam, and Emily; her eight great-grandchildren, Kaleyah, Graham, Kestrel, Devlin, Sloane, Zenna, Ainsley and Irie; her step-grandchildren, Laura, Michael, Joe, Kathy, Brian, Debra, Emma and Anna; and her 9 step-great grandchildren, as well as her sister, Joni Capes and her loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands Jim McAfee and Walt Schnebelen; her siblings Jack, Bern, Chuck, Mary Ann and Patty; and her grandson Cory.
Born on Jan. 20, 1925, in Canton, Ohio, Eileen spent nearly her entire life in Canton, graduating from Mount Marie (now Canton Central Catholic High School (CCHS)). She worked at CCHS as secretary and bookkeeper for 30 years, retiring in 1994. For several years, she was also bookkeeper for the Catholic Youth Council, and in her retirement, volunteered at Doctor's Hospital and CCHS.
A very spiritual woman and devoted Catholic, she once wrote to her children, "Just remember, the most important things in life are faith in God, love and your family." An experienced and gifted card player, she enjoyed bridge, hearts, poker and euchre. She loved spending time with friends and family, devoted herself to helping others, and lived life with passion, love and zest. Her life of compassion and love for others continues to be an inspiration to all whose lives she touched throughout her long and fruitful life.
Family will receive friends at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon, Ohio, WEDNESDAY 4-8 p.m. A brief VISITATION will also be held on THURSDAY, Dec. 21, 9:30 A.M. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4940 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, Ohio just prior to a 10 a.m. FUNERAL SERVICE.
