Edward A. Oakes passed away on November 11, 2019. He was born on October 30, 1942 in Elyria, OH to Agnes Barnwell Oakes and Carl Oakes who were from Crossville, TN. Ed was a 1960 graduate of Avon High School in Avon, OH. He worked for 42 years as a machine repair machinist for General Motors in Elyria and Parma. Ed was an Army veteran who graduated from the US Army Ordnance Center and School at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland as an honor graduate for Turret Artillery Repair. He served as a SP-4 in Korea from 1966-1968. Ed later attended Lorain County Community College. He was a life member of the NRA and a life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Crossville Tennessee Sgt. WA Hamby Camp 1750. Ed enjoyed hunting, outdoor activities and genealogy.
Ed is survived by his wife Dixie Asmus Krueger Oakes whom he married in 1970. Also surviving are son Chad Oakes of Wellington, daughter and son-in-law Rich and Tracy Oakes Stever of Elyria, son Travis Oakes of Las Vegas, NV, brother Gary Oakes (Judy) of Burleson, TX and sister Dianna Oakes Jameson (Gary) of Dalton, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
Family will receive friends Friday, November 15, 2019 from 10 am- 12 pm with the Funeral Service to follow at 12 pm at BUSCH FUNERAL HOME 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon. Officiant will be the Reverend Jeff Braden. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
