Douglas C. Maines, 78 of Elyria and a former resident of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake following a short illness. He was born June 18, 1942 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania.
Douglas was a graduate of Marion L. Steele High School, class of 1960. He was employed at Hy-Level Industries in Strongsville for 17 years as a Tool Crib Supervisor and Purchasing Agent for the company. For 30 years, he was employed at Duffin Manufacturing as a Screw Machine Operator and Plant Supervisor. He was a member of the Peace Mennonite Church, follower of Christ, a Sunday school teacher, Elder of the church, and cared for the church grounds. He was a perfectionist when it came to carpentry and woodworking and enjoyed hunting, shooting, and camping.
Mr. Maines is survived by his wife of 36 ½ years, Audrey L. Maines (nee Croll); sons, Scott Maines of LaGrange, Bruce (Jeanne Williams) Maines of Providence, Rhode Island, and John Thomson, Jr. of Amherst; daughters, Audrey Lauffer (Jeff) of Elyria and Jennifer (Edmund, Jr.) Manuel of Elyria; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Mae Weisner of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence C. Maines and Arrilla Maines (nee Lingle).
Memorial donations may be made to Peace Mennonite Church, 9300 West Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
A private family Celebration of Life service will be in the near future. Funeral arrangements by Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria.
