Donald E. Houghton, 90 of North Ridgeville, OH passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born March 23, 1928 in Buffalo, NY. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Violet (Bundy) Houghton; his loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine Stephanie (Cheek) and his brother Ken Houghton.
Donald served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He attended Canisius College and the State University of New York at Buffalo. Don worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. After 40 years of service in personal and business sales, management and executive positions, Don retired in 1992 as an Assistant to the Vice President for Liberty Mutual in the Westlake Office. Don held positions in Buffalo and Rochester, NY; Charleston, WV; Binghamton, NY and Cleveland, OH. Don received many awards and honors such as: member of the Millionaires Club, member of Liberty Mutual Leaders Club and winner of the Legend of Golf contest.
Don resided in North Ridgeville, Ohio for 40 years with 37 of them with his beloved wife, Geri. Don and Geri were married for 63 years before her passing in 2015.
He enjoyed sailing, bowling, woodworking, camping, fishing, hiking, golf, art and painting, gardening, music and drama; but he cherished his family most of all.
He is survived by his children Rebecca (Jim) Papenfuss, Linda (Walter) Gretz, Doreen Janas and Donald (Danette) Houghton; grandchildren Dawn (Kenny) Barnes, Melissa (James) Ferry, Stacy (Nathan) Nauerz, Crystal Janas-Runyon, Stephen Janas, Meredith (Steve Parks) Houghton, Brandon and James Papenfuss; great-grandchildren Andrew, Tyler, Kayla Barnes, Gracyn Ferry, Liam and Jacob Nauerz, Deagan and Alaina Boland; sister Joyce (Ron) Tracey; many nieces and nephews Barbie Roche (Chuck), Debbie Brown, Stephanie Cheek, John Cheek III, Mark Tracey (Cyndy), Scott Tracey (Nancy), Dawn Cyman (Ted), Jill Grauman (Don), Leah McSparron (Kevin) and many great-nieces and nephews.
