Obituary

Darnell Spraggins, Sr., 73, of Elyria passed away at his home unexpectedly of natural causes Tuesday, September 11, 2018. He was born June 30, 1945 in Huntsville, Alabama. He moved to Lorain with his family in 1946.
Darnell attended Clearview High School, Class of 1963. He served his country in the United States Army for 24 years. He was stationed in various places such as Korea, Germany, Ft. Benning, Ft. Hood, and Ft. Knox where he retired in 1989 as a Sergeant 1st Class. He then went on to work at Poly One in Avon Lake for 10 years. He was a member of the New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Lorain and the Amvets of Elyria. He enjoyed taking car rides, listening to music, especially the Blues, cooking, and telling stories with his brothers.
Mr. Spraggins is survived by his children Darnell (Lisa) Spraggins, Jr. of Elyria, Johnette (William) Cotton of Houston, Texas, Aretha (Michael) King of Whiteland, Indiana, Dana (Laurie) Spraggins of Louisville, Kentucky, Yvette Spraggins of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Gordon S. Spraggins of Louisville, Kentucky; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers Deacon Sam (Emma) Spraggins of Lorain and John (Betty) Spraggins of Lorain; sisters Katherine "Nottie" Walden of Lorain and Margaret Ann (Don) Adams of Cleveland; a host of nieces and nephews of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Birtie (nee Smith) Spraggins (2013); grandsons Alijah Noble and Antonio Spraggins, Sr.; sisters Rosie Holley, Ella Mae "Peggy" Morgan; parents Reverend Cornelius and Lucy (nee Mastin) Spraggins.
Friends may call 5-8pm Sunday, September 16 at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria and 10-11am Monday at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, 3880 Dayton Avenue, Lorain. Service will begin at 11am. Reverend Tyrone Holley, Pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. www.buschcares.com
