Dale I. Skelly, 77, a resident of Grafton for the past 40 years, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 at Lake Pointe Health Care in Lorain following a lengthy illness. He was born September 20, 1942 in Colver, Pennsylvania.
Dale graduated from Elyria High School, class of 1960. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard from 1967-70. He was employed as a letter carrier with the Elyria Post Office for 28 years. He attended the Elyria Baptist Church, organized and founded "Good News Messengers" gospel singing group that ministered in our community and area nursing homes. Dale attended Jolly 60's, enjoyed bowling, played music for square dances, taught children Sunday School classes alongside his wife, Pat, and founded youth programs at Lake Avenue United Church of Christ on Wednesday nights for many years.
Mr. Skelly is survived by his son, Mathew (Amy) Skelly; grandchildren, Madeline and Lydia Skelly; nephews, Rick and Ron Ives; niece, Becky Dougherty.
He was preceded in death by wife of 50 years, Patricia "Pat" Skelly (nee McQueen); sister, Lee L. Ives (nee Skelly); parents, William and Hazel Skelly.
Friends may call 2-4pm and 6-8pm Tuesday, December 3 at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be 10:30am Wednesday, December 4 at the funeral home. Reverend Dan Graham of Gateway Church in North Ridgeville will officiate. Interment will follow at Nesbett Cemetery in Grafton with Military Honors by VFW Post #1079 of Elyria. His loving wife, Patricia will be inurned with him at this time.
