Betty J. Zievers

Rocky River – Betty Zievers reunited with her husband, the late Judge William Urban Zievers. She was born on March 8, 1929 in Chippewa Falls, WI to Robert and Mary Bigler. She is preceded in death by her brother Bob Bigler. She is survived by her beloved children Marilee (Dave) Strang of Rocky River, OH and Penelope (Mike) Thomas of Cincinnati, OH, and her six grandchildren (Sam, Josephine, Zeke, Andrew, Ryan and David).

Betty had an avid interest in dramatics and speech work, participating in state and national level competitions while completing her college degree as a Speech/English major at Eau Claire University. She was the lead in many plays and made frequent appearances on Eau Claire radio station WEAU.

Tennis was her favorite sport since she started playing at age ten while living in Minneapolis. She initiated the tennis program in Chippewa Falls while in high school and instructed there and in Wauwatosa for several summers. She was proud of her trophies for Women's Singles and Doubles in Chippewa Falls and for Women's singles in Kenosha.

Before marrying Bill, she taught elementary education in Wauwatosa and then in Kenosha. While married to Bill, she was public relations chairman for the Lawyers Wives of Kenosha, a member of the Catholic Junior League and secretary of the American Association of University Women.

Other hobbies and interests over her lifetime included piano, bridge, traveling, reading, jazz music, theater and old movies.

Betty remained in Kenosha after Bill's death in 1988 until 2010 when she moved to Rocky River to be near her daughters.

She passed away peacefully on January 31, 2021 at the age of 91. A private family service will be held. In honor of Betty's memory, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 23215 Commerce Park, Suite 300, Beachwood OH 44122. Special condolences can be expressed at the Busch funeral home.
