Arthur Philip Steinmetz, age 93; beloved husband of Thea Steinmetz, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2019 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife; sons Art Jr. and Greg; eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Art grew up in Cleveland where he was a champion sprinter and valedictorian at John Marshall High School. He served in the 71st infantry division in Europe during WWII; got shot in Germany while flushing out snipers and received a Purple Heart. He met Thea on duty in Germany after the war. They were married 67 years. Back stateside, he went to college and law school at Case Western Reserve and graduated in 1951. He then joined the law office of Walter and Haverfield and stayed for 63 years including a stint as managing partner. He pleaded cases all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court. He enjoyed golf and served as the president of Columbia Hills Country Club before switching to Lakewood Country Club.

Art was active in the Presbyterian Church of Rocky River and various civic organizations. Beyond work and family, his greatest passion was military history. He collected an extensive library on the subject. He was a lifelong Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
