Loving husband, father, grandfather and brother

Obituary

Dr. Amit Prakash, born Sept 1948, was a child of India's independence, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. His style and personality made him a respected pillar for the communities he touched: Indian diaspora, material scientists and engineers, researchers, and entrepreneurs. He was a humble intellectual, forgoing personal comfort for loftier goals, including the success of his company, WireTough Cylinders, LLC (based in Bristol, VA). The WireTough board has recognized his dedicated service and vision as a founder, winning patent rights and multimillion dollar Dept. of Energy grants. His entrepreneurial success came after a 19 year career with Goodyear Tire, where his patents are the basis of all road tire technologies. He was concurrently an Adjunct Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Akron. However, he defined personal success not with material wealth or comfort, but as measured with family and friends. His friends knew him as someone who always kept his door open, and who never spoke ill of anyone. His family knew him as a firebrand ethicist with a soft heart and a love of engineering. He was known for his moral compass, a firm believer in the Bhagavad Gita's message of moral duty and humility. He grew up in India, often attending class under a tree. He completed his engineering degree from Banaras Hindu University, where he was also a private pilot. He then immigrated to the US in 1972 as a research scholar at the University of Wisconsin. He earned his doctorate from University of Cincinnati, eventually settling in Hudson, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Nutan, his sons, Shashvat and Ashvin, daughters in law Priyanka and Ashanthi, his grandkids, Ashna and Anisha, his brother Sudhanshu, his sisters Usha and Kalyanee, and his foster son Jason Kinker. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Summit County Children Services Board, 264 South Arlington St, Akron, OH 44306. Cremation by Busch Crematory (440)842-7800.
