Condolence & Memory Journal

During Don's 35-year marriage to my mother, Agnes, he was a devoted husband as well as a caring, kind, and generous member of our family. He showed Ramon, my husband, and me as well as our sons his loving spirit and compassionate heart in many ways. Our sons, Joshua and Gabriel, enjoyed many summers with Don and my mom at various campgrounds. Together we shared holidays of the Jewish and Christian traditions in Tiffin and in Naples, FL. With his tolerant understanding of my parents' complex relationship, Don was able to develop a special friendship with my father. He enabled my mother to share her experiences of the Holocaust in Hungary with public school children and civic organizations in Tiffin and the surrounding area. Without Don's loving support, driving her to various sites, and filming her presentation, my mom would not have been able to contribute her story to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Also, he even played the role of a Hungarian Nazi soldier in Tiffins' Ritz Theatre's production of my mom's story (Agnes' Story) in 1997. Moreover, I will be forever grateful to him for inviting me to join them on their trip in 1998 so that I could meet for the first time my family members in Jerusalem and then in Budapest. As a real mensch, (the Yiddish word for a person of rare and highly valued character), and as an exemplary Christian who practiced his faith's tenets of love and compassion, Don's memory is truly a blessing for our family. We send our love and prayers to all of Don's family and friends.

My love, thoughts and prayers are sent to members of our family and friends. Don was quite the character and storyteller ... I became re-aquainted with him during those last few years he was living alone at West Wind Estates, Naples, Florida. My weekly visits with him were often the highlight of my week ! The stories he told of his younger days and times ... I learned a lot about him and the family. I shall cherish the memories of those visits. I can see him now, dancing in heaven with Agnes and Marilyn.
