Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend

Diana C. Smith (nee Chapman), 75 of North Ridgeville and formerly of Bay Village passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Brighton Gardens in Westlake following a lengthy illness. Diana was born April 9, 1945 in Manchester, New Hampshire and was raised in Barstow, California where she graduated from high school. Her love of horseback riding began there where she was a Calico Rodeo Queen in Barstow known for her barrel rolling skills. Her father's career moved the family to North East Ohio where he was the first president of Cuyahoga Community College. She attended Case Western Reserve and graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Health. It was at Ohio State University that she met the love of her life Robert "Bob" Smith. They would have been married 54 years on June 19. Diana continued her education at the University of Montana with a Masters of Education in Counseling. She later received her A.S. in Nursing from Cuyahoga Community College. Her teaching career began at Cuyahoga Heights School and later at North Olmsted Schools teaching Biology. Later as a registered nurse she was employed at Cleveland Metro Hospital, Laurelwood Psychiatric Hospital, St. John West Shore Hospital and retired as a Cleveland Municipal School System School Nurse. Diana loved traveling and camping across the United States, especially trips to Deadwood, South Dakota and Disney World. She loved animals of all kinds, in addition to horses, she raised and showed Dalmatian Dogs for over 50 years.
In addition to her husband Bob, Diana is survived by 3 sons, Stourton Scott Smith, Cordell Smith (Stacey) and Chad Smith; four grandsons, Noah, Braden, Logan and Cody; brother David Chapman (Marilyn) and sister Cindy Roof (Michael). She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Naoma (nee Ledbetter) Chapman, and a grandson Samuel.
Graveside Service at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Road, Avon on Wednesday June 24 at 2:30pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 25200 Lorain Rd. North Olmsted at 4:00pm. Pastor Tom MacMillan will officiate. Memorials may be forwarded to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
