Inspiring, encouraging, dedicated, strong, friend to all, a true leader and my list could go on and on. Anyone that had Mr. B as a gym teacher, has stories they can tell of how he impacted their lives. He was one of a kind.
I know I share this feeling of gratitude for having been honored by knowing Mr. Balmat with many others. He was the best.

Bill, your dad was a great man. I never had him as a teacher but I have many fond memories of him and your whole family on E. 219 and E. 217.

Don't regret that your dad's life is over, but rather be thankful that it happened!

My best to you and your family.

Im so sorry to hear about my favorite gym teacher of ALL TIME! Mr Balmat was my gym teacher all through my 8 years at St. Pauls in Euclid. He was as tough on the girls as he was with the boys! He didnt want us to be wimps! He was as kind as he was tough! I met him later in life as I was going a bit too fast through Bratenahl. He remembered me from St Pauls and gave me such a talking to that a ticket would have been easier for me to handle! He really knew how to communicate with young people! I graduated from St Pauls in 1968 then Villa Angela Academy in 1972. I will always remember him as the guy who held my ankles as I broke the school record as he yelled Cmon Katie, you can do it! Imagine, an 8th grade GIRL beating ALL of the boys!! 72 sit ups in 2 minutes. Im 65 now and have thought about him many many times throughout my life. He gave me the confidence to be a real competitor in womens sports. I hope Jesus in in shape.. if not Mr Balmat is gonna have him try to beat my record!!! You have my deepest condolences and RESPECT for your DAD!!!

We have such great memories John and Marian from Catawba. They were such a special couple to us. We enjoyed seeing their grandchildren on the beach and they loved our dog, Sloopy. We continued our friendship even after they left Catawba. They will and are greatly missed.

Hi, John was a great man, I should know, along with some friends from Bratenahl. Myself Al Fuerst, Tom Essick, Tim Essick, my brothers, John Fuerst, Anthony Fuerst, we used to keep the chief on his toes, and the Dormbacks. Yes Mr. Balmat was a great man. Rest in peace John.

Dear Sue, JoAnn, Tim and Bill,

Deepest condolences to you and all of your extended families upon the loss of your father. Mr. Balmat, as so many students knew him, was a remarkable man who left a great mark on the many whose lives he touched. You can count yourselves as lucky to have such wonderful role models as parents and pass that love onto all of your children.

Sincerely, Ruth Flannery
