Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather

John Charles Reilly (Jack) 87, of North Ridgeville, cherished husband of Julia Dawn Gilbert for 62 years, passed away June 3, 2020.
Preceded in death by his parents Alice Miller and Joseph Francis Reilly and brother Robert Miller. Father of three sons; Preston (Mary Beth); Alan (Martha); and Brian (Joy). Grandfather of Preston Scott, Jr. (Alison); Nicholas; Mitchell (Brecka); Lauren Shrum (Matt); Matthew (Jaclyn); Alison (Michael); Mark and Brianna.

Originally from Chicago, he moved to Tiffin, Ohio in 1950 and then graduated in the class of 1954 from Heidelberg College where he majored in business, economics and had a minor in music. Graduate work was done at Northwestern University in Illinois.
While at Heidelberg he used his writing skills to become Sports Editor and Interim Editor of the college newspaper. His musical career included performing with the Heidelberg College Concert Choir.

He was employed by Lindberg (A unit of General Signal Corporation) for 50 years, also serving as Area manager-and then Regional Manager for Engineered Ceramics Division of Lindberg. Jack was a member of the American Society for Metals and American Ceramic Society.
His 62 year membership in Fairview Community Church included posts of Treasurer, three terms as President of the congregation, membership on the Stewardship Commission and membership in and Soloist with the Chancel Choir.

His love of boating led him to crew for sailing races at the Cleveland Yachting Club and eventually owned a power boat and sailboat which he also enjoyed on Green Lake in Wisconsin. While a member of the Cleveland Yachting Club he participated in the Chorus.

Jack was a charter member of the Fairview Park Senior Apartment Corporation (Willowood) and served as Treasurer and Secretary during his membership on the Board. He also served as President of the Great Northern Bowling League for 40 plus years. Wherever he served, it always included participation in the Choir-as evidenced by his relatively new membership at John Knox Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be forwarded to John Knox Presbyterian Church, 25200 Lorain Road, North Olmsted OH 44070. Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 21369 Center Ridge Road, Fairview Park, OH Sunday, June 7, 2020 from 2-5 pm. A Celebration of Life to be planned will be announced on our website. Private Interment at Lakewood Park Cemetery. 440-333-9774

Jack was a generous, kind, and entertaining friend who loved to sing. I will miss singing with him in the bass section at John Knox Chancel Choir and at the Pioneer Ridge Glee Club. My deepest condolences go out to Dawn, who loved him so much.

I have had the Honor and Privilege to know Jack and Dawn for some 30 years. It seems a long time, but for me is still too short of a time. We were team mates and enjoyed all those wonderful catch phrases and little fun jokes that team mates share among themselves. During those times, I truly got to call Jack Reilly friend. We would share thoughts and ideas about music, and history, writing and family. Those moments are the most wonderful moments of life.
It is hard to say goodbye to a long time friend. It is harder still for the family to do so, and my thoughts, prayers and well wishes go out to Dawn and all the Family. May There be Peace.

I was introduced to Jack 15 to 20 years ago and joined his bowling team, the Cyclones, at Buckeye Lanes for which I still bowl. Jack was a great friend as well as his wife Dawn. Jack honored me by asking me to sell his home in North Olmsted and finding his new home in North Ridgeville a few years ago. Jack and Dawn were and are very gracious and I will miss Jack terribly.

Dawn and family - I'm so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so very sad to learn of this news. Mr. Reilly was one of the kindest, most caring, and most supportive people I have ever known, and I will remember him very fondly. My deepest condolences on your great loss, Mrs. Reilly, and to your sons and their families. "Let not your heart be troubled... In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." John 14: 1-2
