On Monday, October 21, 2019 Cliff Brooks passed away at the age of 94. Cliff was a true renaissance man. Born as the son of a small farmer from Harrisville, Pennsylvania. Cliff served in WWII as a U.S. Marine in the 1st Division and saw service in the Pacific Theatre. Cliff participated in the invasions and iconic battles of Peleliu, Tarawa and Okinawa. Cliff spoke of some of his pacific theatre experiences in a YouTube series titled "Memories of WWII". After the war he served in the Marine Corps Reserves and was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict of the early 1950's. Cliff completed his service and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was an accomplished photographer, cinematographer and an award winning motion picture film editor. He attended the Yale School of Photography. He learned to fly from renowned flight instructor Ernie Hall. Cliff loved boating, both motor boats and sail boats. He was featured on a segment of "Del's Folks". He was a competitive target shooter. Cliff retired from NASA Glenn Research Center as a scientific photographer in 1986. He was an active member and board member of the Erie Shores Photo Club. Cliff was an educator, teaching photographic skills to several generations of students. He built and flew model airplanes as well as building and displaying scale ship models. He built home additions and practiced woodworking including building furniture and built-in cabinets. Cliff was an amateur astronomer and built his own 6 inch reflective telescope. Cliff sang as a tenor in a barbershop quartet and in the choir at Lake Shore United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Later in life Cliff became an artist and embraced painting. He was a published author. He carefully followed national politics.

Cliff is preceded in his passing by his mother Zelda, his father Arthur, his sisters Louise Robertson and Gladys Sturrock, his brother Bill and an infant brother Stephen. Cliff was married to Margaret (Page) for 72 years and was the loving father of his daughter Amy (Brooks) & Dan Laity and son Christopher Brooks & Bethany Laws, as well as three grandchildren, Colleen (Brooks) & Brian Dudley, Steven Laity & Rebecca Brown and Kevin Laity & Marion Richards. Cliff had six great-grandchildren, Emma Dudley, Fiona Dudley, Amelia Laity (deceased), Eliana Laity, Connor Laity and Samantha Laity.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to a charity of your choice in memory of Cliff. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11am at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. 440-933-3202
