Obituary for Dona Mae Cobbeldick

August 26, 1926 - May 3, 2019
Lakewood, Ohio | Age 92

Loving Mother and Grandmother

DONA MAE COBBELDICK (nee Burkhardt), age 92 of Lakewood, formerly of Bay Village. Beloved wife of the late Walter C. Cobbeldick Jr. and devoted mother of Bruce Cobbeldick. Loving grandmother of Hali, Hannah, Hope and Jaret. Dear sister of the late June Burnham (Bruce, deceased) and cherished aunt of Bonnie Bennyhoff (Bruce) and Betsy Sue Shannon (Martin).

Born in Rocky River, Dona Mae attended Rocky River High School where she was active with the Thespian Society and served as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. It was natural she would go on to major in journalism and radio speech at Kent State University. A proud graduate of KSU, she was president of the freshman class, listed in "Who's Who in Colleges & Universities" and a charter member of Alpha Phi International Fraternity. She remained active with College Club West throughout her lifetime. After college she was in Market Research for the Illuminating Company, then served as Director of Community Organization for the Lung Association. She did not leave her career until the birth of her son in 1963.

After her husband died and son went into the service, Dona Mae moved into the Knickerbocker Apartments where she lived until March 2010 when she moved to assisted living at O'Neill's Lakewood. No matter where she called home, Dona Mae's life centered around family, friends and service. She continued to give to her community through programs like Christmas Seals, Welcome Wagon, Share-A-Story Intergenerational Reading Program, ushering for Playhouse Square as a
Redcoat and serving as president of the local AARP chapter for two years.

A devoted Christian, Bay Presbyterian Church was a big part of Dona Mae's life. She dearly loved bible study with her K Group and continued to study and share God's word until the end. She especially valued the friendships she found at Bay Presbyterian and her family is grateful for the support provided by these friends. Dona Mae's joyful spirit was evidenced by her never ending smile and ability to make us laugh. She went home to the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2019 and is smiling on us still.
